Verstärkter Einsatz von Englisch als Unterrichtssprache
Date du début: 7 juil. 2014, Date de fin: 6 juil. 2016 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Due to the claim of various parents our school starts a project in autumn in which various subjects are taught in English or bilingually in English and German. Apart from better language competences in English the project should give students a greater understanding and responsiveness to linguistic, social and cultural diversity and increase their opportunities for professional and individual development and boost their motivation while studying and later on in their daily work. Part of the preparation is sending teachers to courses in England to consider C.L.I.L. methodology and to acquire expertise and fresh ideas for teaching their subject in English. Besides they should get to know modern, innovative teaching materials and evaluate, adapt and create materials for teaching their subjects. In addition the mobility programme should help the participants to refresh and improve their language skills, focusing on the language required to teach their subject(s) in English. Teachers will be faced with the challenge of designing monolingual and bilingual tasks and task types, they will have to evaluate texts and textbooks, and they will need strategies to present and teach specialist vocabulary. Via modern means of communication the participants can keep in touch and share materials as well as personal experiences. Teachers who have had at least some years of experience in teaching geography, sciences, maths, history, music and art are intending to take part in the project, to be better able to combine language and subject learning. In order to ensure a high quality of teaching in school the teachers participating in the project will share their knowledge with other teachers of our school, prepare lessons together, give feedback on lessons and discuss the progress of learning. The long term effect that we expect from the project: Teachers will gain tremendous self-confidence concerning their language competence and will be motivated and well prepared to teach their subject in English. Students on the other hand will enlarge their vocabulary, their ability to communicate in a foreign language and gain a better insight into different cultures.
