TERMINÉ
Youth dropping out of sports is a problem in the South Baltic Sea. Sports are a means to both physical and social activity which benefits health and development. Staying active can also keep youths out of trouble whereas drop-out can lead to bad lifestyle choices such as drug or alcohol use, petty crime or hanging around in bad social circles. The main aim of this project is to make it possible for youths in the Baltic region to stay active in sports for a longer time in their life. Results and effects from this project are increased knowledge among coaches and sport organizations regarding how drop-outs can be prevented, a good practise material and a drop-out preventative leadership education for spreading and teaching knowledge and a network for continued exchange of good practise in preventing drop-outs. The main target group is youths who will be inspired to stay active for a longer time. Coaches, board members of sport organizations and sport departments in municipalities are also important target groups as they have the power to use the good practise from the project and affect sport in a positive direction. The aims and results will be achieved, in this two year project, as a cross-border cooperation involving three municipalities; Karlskrona, Sweden, Gdynia, Poland and Klaipeda, Lithuania as well as a sport education organization in Sweden. Seven sport organizations will also cooperate in the project. The project will contain joint sport events with workshops, one in each country, where youths and coaches will reflect on reasons for staying active or dropping out. The project will also contain mapping of good practise in workshops and in participating nations and sports organizations which is compiled into a good practise material and leadership education. The good practise material will be spread throughout both participating and other sport organizations and the leadership education will be attended by coaches in the project as well as youths participating in the project who want to become a coach. Through previous exchange between the project partners, it has become apparent that the organization of sports as well as leadership practises differs between the countries. By having a cross-border approach in this project a wide range of examples of good practise to prevent drop-outs can be found. Durability of project and project results will be ensured via the network and dissemination that will continue after the end of the project.
