The VATO Training Package will introduce a series of measures aimed at improving the training of care workers for the elderly, it will address the constantly changing demands upon staff and will develop a specialist training package (800 hours) for those in this sector.Initially, work will include the development of a guide related to the learning process, targeted both at students undergoing training and those teaching the subject. Further new learning and teaching materials will then be created to cover assessment, planning and in-care support of the elderly, again for use by both teacher and learner.The project will be implemented in the form of multiform learning, which will enable the participation of students across a wide range of real life situations. Students may choose to complete the whole (800 hours) training package or simply individual elements (course total equals 40 study weeks), according to their own schedule. They will further be able to learn study techniques and how to draft their own curriculum.Following initial testing of the package with end-users, materials will be produced & printed in all partner languages (FI, EN, SV & IT) and added to the relevant partner websites for download. The long-term plan being that learning can take place either through contact (with a teacher or trainer) or distance (self-access via electronic medium) means.
