VAMOS A JACA
Date du début: 1 juin 2016, Date de fin: 31 mai 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Eight years ago, the technical school "Lycée du 4 Septembre 1870”, commenced a new student program called "Erasmus +". This was designed to cater for the more increasing numbers of technical A level applicants (Baccalauréat Professionnel). This program allowed them to participate in a one month training period (PFMP) in a European country, namely Spain. The objectives of Erasmus + werea. Creating a long lasting link between the program partners of Jaca and our Lycéeb. Allowing some pupils for the first time to gain a rich European experiencec. Revitalising the twinning communities of Oloron and JacaInitially six scholarships were granted, however Mr MESLI allowed 12 pupils to participate. This was possible using the Erasmus + program and the Aquitaine Region Subventions. Financial assistance was also provided by the Lycée.All 12 pupils were equally divided in the commerce and people care (ASSP) courses thus opening the program to all the Lycée sections. One participant withdrew after one week despite the attempts to have her continue and despite the care given in the selection process. The remaining participants completed their program in their corresponding speciality.Among these 11 students three were 18 years old, one was 19. The seven others were aged between 15 and 17 . Nine participants came from a disadvantaged background. The majority couldn’t have financially and logistically achieved this training period in Spain by themselves. They both appreciated and understood the benefits and the essential roles played by the European Union in this Erasmus + program. The 11 students acquired professional skills according to their studies. They appreciated to discover and compare new methods in another country. This experience gave a practical meaning to what they learn at the Lycée.The tutors all noticed a huge progress in current language and technical vocabulary. The pupils benefited from attending two weekly hours of Spanish lessons conducted in a small group in a Jaca language school (one of our precious and faithful partners). The pupils also furthered their geographical and historical knowledge through cultural and sportive outings on weekends (some of which included Jaca, Pampelune and Saragosse). Six students out of the 11 said it raised their curiosity in foreign countries and their history. Nine out of the 11 appreciated the outdoor trekkings and sports activities related to nature. The whole group expressed their satisfaction linked to the discovery of a new culture and different ways of life.During the training period, Web TV Oloron made a documentary in Jaca. The students were filmed and interviewed at their place of work experience. Two articles were printed in the local press (Aragon). The pupils also maintained a daily update on the Lycée blog (“Vamos a Jaca”). During this period, teachers and tutors followed the pupils. The students felt they could evolve by learning "on the ground" and communicate in a foreign language both in their professional and daily lives. They all agreed to have noticed an increased personal development. The training periods developed their self-confidence and raised their curiosity. They also demonstrated they could be autonomous and were able to live in a group abroad.Three students out of the 11 would like to work in Spain and two others would like to go and work in Australia. Some of them spoke about their intention to seek employment internationally. The collaboration between the different partners in Spain and France reinforced the links between the towns of Oloron-Sainte-Marie and Jaca. The partners’ involvement clearly allowed the trainees to evolve in good work conditions and acquire skills/competences linked directly or indirectly to the occupations. The selection of the new partners ensured the success of the training periods. The professionals, the educational team of the Lycée, the local governments of both towns and of course the students, thoroughly enjoyed shared experiences and skills.
