Apollon Yhteiskoulu secondary school is seeking Erasmus+ KA1 mobility grant for seven teachers of the following subjects: foreign languages, music, visual arts, student councelling and special education. The teachers have all volunteered to take part in the project in order to develop the organization and their own pedagogical competence by participating in international training courses that reflect the needs of our school the best. These courses will be organized during a period of 18 months, which allows the members of the teaching staff time to process and implement the acquired skills and information.
There are a considerable number of students in our lower secondary school who receive part-time special education. Also the amount of students with special needs or a foreign background in our upper secondary school is above average. That is why we need information about how professionals in other countries tackle issues such as reducing early school leaving and meeting the needs of the students with immigrant backgrounds. The Board of Education has also included these requirements in the new national core curriculum.
Apollon Yhteiskoulu offers our lower secondary school students a possibility to take up more courses in visual arts and music than what the national core curriculum requires. In order to adopt the new phenomenon-based learning methodology, we need tools and ideas as well as instruction on how to make the best possible use of the new technology in teaching. Music and visual arts also promote co-operation between different subjects for example in the various drama projects of the school.
Our school needs an up-to-date strategy for international activity, new information and tips for educating our students on international matters. To ensure the long-term success and continuity of this international dimension in our school we also need to network with our colleagues globally. In the future, we want to increase student mobility by taking part in new international projects, which in turn will make language studies more attractive to students of all ages.
We will share the acquired know-how and experiences with our partners, colleagues and students for example in the school meetings and events, classes, web-pages and social media.
