The centre of culture and education in Valkeakoski is the coordinator of this consortium. The partners are Valkeakoski Music School and the Ballet School of Valkeakoski Lifelong Centre. The objective of the project is to expand the pedagogic expertise of teachers and to develop the working methods of the schools. Our goal is to improve teaching and to expand the schools' pedagogic toolkits by adopting creative, holistic teaching methods.
Arts education supports open-minded study of foreign cultures. One of its tasks is to transfer cultural heritage, but also to create new culture and to participate in intercultural dialogue. Teachers in art education need tools to implement these important tasks. The best way to implement these tasks is to actively seek situations where intercultural dialogue takes place.
The music school has a need to develop traditional music teaching towards an approach that promotes holistic musicianship and lifelong learning. This means that teachers must adopt new attitudes and acquire appropriate training.
The ballet school has a need to update its curriculum and pedagogic contents to better correspond to current international dance pedagogy. It also has a need to air out its methods, gain new perspectives to pedagogy and enhance the teachers' pedagogic skills.
During the 2-year project we will implement 12 course participations and 4 job shadowing periods. The course participants will explore Orff pedagogy, which emphasizes the use of instruments, voice, rhythm and the use of the body to learn by doing. The job shadowin gperiods will take place in two leading European dance schools, whose curricula, methods and teaching practices will help to develop the pedagogic skills of dance teachers and the curriculum of the Valkeakoski Lifelong Learning Centre's ballet school.
As a result of this project the professional expertise of the participants will be increased and they will adopt new pedagogic tools and gain new ideas for both teaching individuals and groups. They will also get a better understanding of art education in Europe, contacts to teachers in other European countries. Their ability to meet the needs of learners will improve, and they will be able to take into account different learning styles, personalities and backgrounds and take advantage of them in teaching situations.
The participating organisations will get new expertise which will help them to develop both their curricula and teaching contents. The quality of education will improve thanks to the new pedagogic tools and a wider international experience. The ability of the organisation to work in European contexts will increase, and we will create a more modern, dynamic and committed organizational culture throughout the centre of education and culture.
New and innovative individual and group teaching methods will bring new contents and inspiring working methods to the learners. The increased pedagogic skills of teachers will enhance learning, traditional art education will get new insights and the learners' motivation will grow.
