Gimnazija Poljane is one of the largest and most reputable high schools in Slovenia. Although the school is technologically well equipped, it is not easy to keep up with the latest technological developments in the field of teaching. When Slovenia joined the EU, a number of opportunities opened up for teachers for professional development and cooperation with colleagues abroad. Our aim to improve the quality of teaching with the use of modern teaching methods, electronic classrooms and other ICT tools. In order to achieve our goal, we’ve established a school project USP.EH (Ustvarjamo Spletne Poljane in širimo E.Horizont). The project is led by the school development team composed of the school Principle, eight teachers, the head of adult education and the school librarian. All the team members are experienced in the field of digital literacy. Their participation in t the professional development planning within the Erasmus+ project will help them further develop their skills. One of our primary goals is to promote the use of electronic classrooms among teachers with a special emphasis on blended learning. We believe that digital literacy is one of the key competencies of a teacher and an important teaching and motivational tool. With new teaching methods and the support of teaching technology tools, we wish to additionally motivate our students to achieve even better results through dynamic learning. The knowledge of foreign languages is an important skill not only for students but also for teachers. We would also like our teachers of all subjects to be able to confidently teach in a foreign language (CLIL). After completing training courses, teachers will be more confident using their newly acquired knowledge, especially in the use of Moodle and other ICT tools. New knowledge and teaching methods will be passed on to their school colleagues through workshops and also to the teachers of other schools through professional meetings of study groups (The National Education Institute), international conferences (SIRIKT) and through a news portal for teachers (SIO.SI). Those interested in learning more about the project will have the report available on the blog dedicated to the project and the school web site. The training courses will help teachers improve their communication in a foreign language with teachers abroad. Collaboration with foreign teachers will help them establish contacts with similar schools and find new opportunities for international exchanges, new partners for eTwinning projects and perhaps participate in even more demanding international projects.
