Use of technology in the classroom

PROJET
TERMINÉ
The European Programme’s Committee in our school has developed a plan in order to promote the use of technology in the classroom. The Committee has decided on the above subject after consideration of several areas which the school had identified as areas of weakness. Within the context of this plan, teachers from our school will receive teacher training on the use of new technologies in the classroom. The Committee has searched for such teacher training courses abroad, and has selected a teacher training course in Video Education and Production in Berlin, Germany offered by Kulturring. The Committee then selected two teachers based on their subject needs/requirements, their skills and prior experience with European partnerships.
The plan’s objectives are to learn new teaching methods and to apply such teaching within our own school programme. The participants selected for this programme are eager to find ways to merge their respective subjects and competences for the enhancement of their own teaching practices: Melpo Georgiadou teaches computer education, and her course curriculum includes video editing. Cleo Demetriou teaches graphic design and the future of graphic design incorporates digitally produced images and video. The intention is for the participants to build on their existing knowledge and expertise, and for one to complement the other; the technical competencies of one teacher will complement the visual literacy competencies of the other teacher, thus one supporting and fostering the other. A further objective of the plan, is to gain competence and experience in the area of video education and production, and to be in the position to demonstrate and train other teachers - of other subjects - in our school in the use of video production as an educational tool. In addition, the knowledge and competencies gained through this course will be implemented in the current and future Erasmus+ (or other European) projects that the school is involved in.
The expected impact on the participants is expected to be:
• improving learning skills in video production and its application as a learning tool within the classroom.
• gaining insight from those who have greater experience within the area of video learning and how it has been successfully applied in different classroom contexts within other European countries.
• additionally, learning from the experience of fellow participating teachers in regards to students’ responses in the use of video.
The intended activities of our plan are:
• We intend to apply and participate in teacher training courses that address the incorporation of technology in the classroom. The first teacher training course includes a mobility in Berlin (two staff members will be attending), that addresses video production/editing.
• The two participating teachers will organize and present seminars and workshops for other secondary school teachers within the school, where video learning as a general pedagogic tool can be applied within the classroom.
• Develop a learning pack for teachers which promotes the use of technology as part of an interdisciplinary educational practice; formulate and apply a teaching module for secondary education using technology that can be applied within other subject areas.
The longterm goal of the above plan, is for teachers to be encouraged to present video projects that they have conducted within their own teaching environments. The results of the project activities will be assessed in the long run, through the extent to which teachers will employ such technical knowledge within the classroom. We believe that central to interdisciplinary and intercultural educational practices, is the exchange of information and exchange of experience.
