Urban Layers - New Paths in Photography
Date du début: 1 mai 2015, Date de fin: 1 mars 2017 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Urban Layers—New Paths in Photography is a project intended to describe and stimulate a broad audience to gain an active role—through urban photography and outdoor artistic comsumption—in the social life of its territory. The project will analyse—before and during its activities—the reactions to this stimulation. There are three main phases:1. An inquiry on the urban cultural frame will be coordinated by Università del Salento (Department of History, Society and Anthropological Study) in the Mediterranean countries involved in the project: Spain, Italy, Greece. This inquiry will analyse social dynamics generated by urban art and collective visual inspirations, by which citizens sharply recognize their own public space, heritage, identity and also the changes that may occur to this context and citizens theirselves; 2. The core of the project, composed by:A) Artist-in-residence programs, open to 10 young photographers and settled in a symbolic venue, being Gibellina. This territory has undergone an after-heartquake urban renewal through public art by Fondazione Orestiadi, partner for this project. The residence will generate the production of 60 new photographic works presented in a permanent exhibition in Gibellina and in the publication of a catalog. B) Urban outdoor festivals, organized in the historical centres of Malaga, Lecce, Salonicco, that will realize the purposes analysed in phase 1 (a collective cultural challenge, by means of public consumption of photography); photographic exhibitions will be displayed in a new way on large format throughout the streets, with a careful selection of authors and works by project’s scientific committee;3. Dissemination and exploitation of the results: A) Publication and presentation of the research report in Lecce, with a scientific Seminar.B) A final Conference at Museo di Fotografia Contemporanea in Cinisello Balsamo, with all partners involved, international artists and photographers.
