TERMINÉ
ÖkoStadt Bremen e.V. will carry out the project "Urban Gardening for immigrants and others" as part of its efforts to set up two new community gardens and support the existing. The background for this is the two-years project "KulturGärten", aiming at broader participation of immigrants and others in environmental issues.
The exchange will take place from August 23 - 31, 2015 in Bremen, Germany. The total number of participants is 30 the partner organisations will be Educon Vaslui from Romania and Pistes Solidaires from France. The project will last nine month on the hole, from February to October 2015, including a preparatory meeting in May.
During the youth exchange participants should not only be able to identify and reflect main aspects of environmental justice but also gain experience in practical garden work as a base for own initiatives in this field.
Three partner organisations from three member countries of the European Community will send ten young adults per each including the group leaders. All partners are prepared to engage with community gardens as means of environmental protection on the one hand and as a measure of integrating refugees and immigrants into society on the other.
Activities will be workshops, practical garden work, excursions to community garden projects and the wadden sea national park.
Methodology is based on non-formal learning, consisting of group based acitivities, presentations, world café - discussions, evaluation, practical garden work, excursions. English will be the lingua franca.
The exchange will result in the following: Participants should gain insight into the political concept of environmental justice and the role of community gardens to tackle the impacts of climate change on local level; furthermore acquire knowledge about European asylum politics and help improving community gardens for refugees and others.
In the long run the experience made during the stay should help to improve the understanding of how voluntary work helps to reduce social segregation and at the same time raises public awareness of environmental challenges.
