Date du début: 1 août 2014, Date de fin: 30 avr. 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The training course UNVEILING STORIES: Youth Work Against Racism is part of a long term strategy undertaken by Lunaria and other partner organizations, aimed to find different ways to fight the racism and xenophobia spreading in the nowadays society. For this reason the aim of the project was to raise youth awareness on the daily growth of racism and xenophobia and to empower the youth workers' skills in the identification of the different shapes of discrimination. This action afterwards inable them to take concrete actions promoting fair, intercultural approaches and protecting victims of racism. In this perspective we provided participants, who are daily in touch with young people, in some of the cases at risk of social exclusion, with fresher and updated information on these topics. They also shared new interactive tools, result of the dynamic combination of non formal education and theatre improvisation so to be afterwards in condition to apply them to their national backgrounds. Thanks to this combination we expect, as project outcome, the involvement of a wider amount of young people, local and with migratory backgrounds, in participative, intercultural and inclusive actions. The training, 8 days long, took place in Melilli, Sicily and involved 30 participants, youth workers and peer educators, coming from Italy, France, Romania, Greece, Armenia, Russia, Belarus and Moldova. During the experience they were involved in non formal education activities, theater workshops, works in group, Intercultural Learning - ICL sessions, the sharing of good practices and working methods, conflict management session, in the study visit and the final event realized in a school of Augusta. The interactive methodologies proposed during the training came from the non formal education and the theater. They both foresee the active involvement of participants in each stage of the process and promote the horizontal exchange of competences. In this perspective ice breakers, team building activities, energizers, role play games, simulations, debates and theater workshops were interactive tools to stimulate the active involvement of participants. The project was one action, part of the long term strategy of the organization, aimed to fight racism and social exclusion among the young people in a sustainable, long term perspective. Indeed the young people taking part in these activities are expected to become peer educators in future projects aimed at promoting ICL, at fighting against exclusion and racism, encouraging the equal and fair participation of other peers. For this reason, on their way back, participants organized and facilitated ICL activities to enhance the interaction of young people coming from different backgrounds and life’ experiences, both autochthonous and with migrants origins.
