Uniting Europe through digital empowerment
Date du début: 1 nov. 2012,

The concept of social inclusion reflects the essentials of the current information era, in which issues of identity, language, social participation, community, and civil society have taken central stage. Social inclusion is related to equal opportunity in joining information society, and the need of overcoming digital divide to allow all citizens to freely and fully express themselves and exploit their rights as citizens and individuals is widely recognized, as well as it is acknowledged that about 30% of Europeans (150 million of citizens) are at present digitally excluded. UniteIT network contributes to tackle digital divide in EU, aiming at:- providing the operational and administrative ground on which the members can exchange practices, share resources and visions on digital competence for inclusion; - developing an online portal, containing information, news, materials, access to network databases of practices and policies in EU on ICTs for inclusion and social cohesion;- pooling resources in the field;- establishing working groups in identified sub-areas related to digital competence for inclusion, i.e. employability, access to education for groups-at-risk, access to ICTs, gender equality in digital competence etc., composed by relevant stakeholders coming from business, society, policy fields;- raising awareness about the value of digital competence for inclusion and social cohesion purposes;- providing state-of-the art reports on yearly basis, to analyse current situation and trends;- providing a yearly conference bringing together policy makers, practitioners, stakeholders dealing with young and adult learners. The impact is envisaged at societal level, by strengthening links between education/training, business, users organisations, societal organisations and local/national authorities, to promote positive synergies, mutual understanding, common actions to tackle digital divide and promote the acquisition of digital competence.
