Una ventana al mundo
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 août 2015 PROJET  TERMINÉ

Firstly, we would like to mention that we have named our project "A window to the world" since knowledge of other languages and cultures makes you have a different view of everything around you and opens the door to many opportunities. The main reason why we think that our project should be part of the Erasmus+ program is because we work in a very disadvantaged socio- cultural context where the students and their families can not afford to have complementary language classes. This means that these families have unequal opportunities , not only now, but also in the future when the children enter the working world because language skills are increasingly in demand. If we don't teach good English to our students before they finish primary education they will be excluded from a better English language education at their secondary school. The Secondary School (IES José María Pereda)in which most of our students will attend offers bilingual education, however our students will have to compete with students from other schools who have had more resources to English to be able to receive the bilingual education. Our School has always taken all actions to help to improve the quality of education and promote equality of opportunity and development for our students. As a matter of fact: - We were recognized nationally for our work in developmental education with the National Award "Vicente Ferrer " and more specifically in the work on MDGs (Millenium Development Goals) at all levels of the Centre (the summary of the experience can be found in the publication of the Ministry of Education and Science). - We are also part of the Cantabrian promoters Network Health Centers. - We carry out "Plan de Inmersión Lingüistica de la Consejería de Educación". - We have a coexistence plan inside the school. In addition, we are officially accredited for leading the University students´ teaching placements , which we feel is a great benefit to our school as all of the training we receive impacts very directly on our students and their families, and positively affects the university students that are placed in our school. One of our goals is to offer our students quality, equality and opportunity in their education and in their lifes. Our project will be developed in early childhood stages, however the target is not to finish it there, we would love to go on and enlarge the project to cover all of the levels and thus turn our school into a Bilingual School in a middle time, based on the institution "Consejería de Educación" plan. Hence it is essential for us to have well-trained teachers with good linguistic skills . There are eight participants from our school, what means the 50% of the teachers are involved in the project, which are all university graduates with English language knowledge. They will be sent to the chosen countries to immerse themselves in the culture and to take English language courses . They are teachers who are deeply committed to the project and are willing to give continuity to this project once this is over. The participants are aged between 31 and 55 and they are all very enthusiastic people who work very hard to give their students the best education possible. In addition there will be other staff working on the preparation , monitoring and evaluation of the project so that the whole school is iinvolved in some way: - The management team is in charge of organising all arrangements and checking that everything is carried out correctly by everyone involved in the project . - The coordinators are responsible for preparing the logistical and practical issues and they will help the staff with all of the problems that may arise. - The head of intercultural issues will give a talk to all of the participants about the countries which have been chosen as a destination. - The native English teacher who will carry out the assessments and the participants meet and will meet herthree times per week for language training and for sharing the progress and difficulties found in the challenge of teaching and learning a different language. Teachers will provide a bilingual education to preschool children , by introducing English creatively through stories , cards, flashcards , and giving basic commands using routines and repetition day by day. The project will be exposed through new technologies and seminars among other things. It will have an impact on the entire educational community. We hope this is not a temporary project and that it becomes a long-term project, growing to reach all of the levels within our school and we also hope to become an accredited bilingual school where teachers and students can be distinguished by a good English language and cultural education . We hope with this project our students have the same opportunities than other children and they don't have just to dream with the world but can open up to it.
