TERMINÉ
The Primary School C. Maneri -Ingrassia was born on the first September by joining the two primary school in her name. It has more than 1.100 pupils aged 3-11 and it is part of Settecannoli district in Palermo, difficult area where the middle class has recently started to move in big blocks of flats. Few cultural centres apart from the charities active in the area.
The Ministry of Education has joined two schools, once separated and this has caused big conflicts among the staff which now feel the necessity of building a common educative dimension a sharing methodologies and strategies. They seem to have developed a new awareness on the importance of social competences for the teacher who does not work isolated any more.
In addition, the staff is made up, for the most part, of teachers who do not have an academic education and they have never had, apart from a few exceptions, international experiences, they are not involved, generally speaking, in international partnerships and they have a partial knowledge of education systems in Europe.
Part of the pupils show to have a difficult background, they are not motivated and not interested in school activities.
We intend to reach the following Indirect Objectives:
- motivating/re-motivating staff;
- promoting projectile, evaluation, organizational and relational competences with reference to the quality of educative service;
- reinforce pedagogical competences;
- facing changes and the new challenges of society which imply the acquisition of new
strategies in particular in social and didactic areas;
- activating initiatives based on the confrontation with other operators in different areas in order to receive inputs with a positive reflection on daily class work;
- developing new didactic strategies that can cope with new requirements of our students;
- supporting teachers' professional needs;
- disseminating the results of their work, integrating personal experiences and school curriculum
- building up a collaborative and motivated staff.
We intend to obtain the following specific objectives:
- to improve teachers' linguistic competences
- to stimulate the comparison and debate with other European countries
- to acquire new knowledge, procedures, competences to enrich teaching strategies;
- to obtain products and evidences of best practices to share in the school;
- to acquire knowledge of ICT language and techniques.
The project implies the partecipation of teachers and directive staff to several training activities. We have planned 26 mobilities:
- 15 mobilities aimed at linguistic and methodologycal courses
- 11 mobilities aimed at pedagogical communicative and relational issues.
Our training plan has a peculiar character in that it considers training has a “collective, shared action” to build during the years by accepting responsibilities on a shared plan. It gives great importance to reflection, to the diagnose of individual and collective needs, which have been investigated by the teachers' school government body.
It suggests a new relationship between the individual and the group, between professional development and environment, enhancing the choice of the individual, supporting his/her professional needs and recognising value to his/her acquisitions, his/her work, his/her individual study apart from that needed for his class work.
Our project implies a direct impact on partecipants in that it allows the acquisition of a more structured professional habit, the development of the partecipation to European debate on education and an enrichment in terms of knowledge and competences.
We forsee a positive impact on school and pupils because they will be able to take an advantage from the better quality of teaching both of foreign languages as well as other subjects, and from a more international dimension of the curriculum provided in the school.
On a long term perspective, the school will be able to take part in several projects and partnerships with other European schools and the foreign language curriculum will be strongly reinforced by that.
We will also be able to develop a better understanding of other cultures, tolerance and acceptance of what is “different” from us, enhancing “European citizenship”.
Moreover, we hope that our pupils, those from the last class, even if very young, will be able to take active part in exchanges, bringing home important experiences.
