The partnership project entitled " Un jardin residue frontiers. Fleurisse que notre esprit dans le jardin de l'Europe " involves Italian, Rumanian, Portuguese, Spanish and Bulgarian schools. It is aimed at teachers and pupils in secondary schools of the partner countries (pupils aged 11 to 14 years.) This project was born from the need to meet the needs emerging with regard to youth problems, lack of motivation, education , and the many difficulties students are facing in order to acquire basic skills.
In view of the above, the priority objectives of the partnership schools and of this project are to :
- Broaden the skills of teaching staff and to improve the quality of teaching
- Introduce new methods and teaching tools in practical teaching, with particular reference to active learning , constructive pedagogy
- Introduce a European dimension in education
All this in order to provide innovative tools for retrieval of basic skills and to promote academic success .
The project aims at achieving the above mentioned objectives in two phases: the first will entail confrontation between teachers and effective methodology and a subsequent phase will evaluate the classes.
The school partnership project " Un jardin sans frontiers " includes:
- Opportunities for discussion , study and training among teachers on learning experiences, active / active learning / constructivist pedagogy
- Discussion on effective methods
- Planning for the the classroom, in individual institutions and between different institutions
- 6 international meetings that would involve the mobility of teachers
- Exchange of classes for a period of 7 days
- direct observations of teaching practice in other countries involved in the project during the exchange period of the classes.
The theme chosen of the garden was thought to be particularly appropriate as it offers :
- Great possibilities to build interdisciplinary paths and, consequently , is particularly suitable for teaching skills
- It lends itself to teaching in real live situations
- suitable for the of ICT
- allows you to work directly on the recovery of basic skills
Students will address the theme of the garden through the interdisciplinary study of:
-History - the garden in Antiquity , the Middle Ages, the Renaissance , etc. .
-Art - art history (from Roman paintings to land - art , creating fantastic gardens ( with two-dimensional and three-dimensional techniques ), study of perspective applied to gardens
- Science and geography - and phytogeography of the school vegetable garden
- Language and Literature - Reading and analysis of texts from children's literature on the subject, creative writing
- Technology , mathematics, active citizenship - designing a garden for the city, the school's vegetable garden
- Music - garden in music ( for example, the music of Sir William Walton and the garden of "La mortella" à Ischia - Naples)
- All disciplines use ICT .
The expected results will be twofold:
- Tangible : reports on the project , implementation of events, production of teaching materials , production of virtual scrapbook of gardens, herbaria virtual models of plants and gardens, drawings, sculptures , stories, diaries. Creating a website dedicated to the project documentation and publication of materials.
- Non-tangible : the construction of a common experience in the field of European landscape heritage , the introduction of a European dimension to education , the improvement of basic skills (pupils ) , improving digital skills ( students and teachers ) and teachers' professional development.
In the long term, hopefully, it will introduce a European dimension and spread issues related to European citizenship to different educational institutions of the countries involved.
