PROJET
TERMINÉ
The primary background of this project is the period of the major obligatory internship of the HLUW (higher vocational school for economy and ecology). This means that students of the third grade have to do a work placement of three months in (usually) different companies from July to September. There they should gain experience of working in a laboratory,in the production and of doing clerical (commercial) work. In order to gain experience and competences beyond these fields (language skills, intercultural skills, work methods, the European experience, enhancement of one’s job profile), Erasmus + offers the possibility to do part of the internships abroad. This year the foreign langusges are especially important, since all pupils have chosen a country with a different language. 4 pupils know English as a working language, 2 know a second foreign language (Italian, Spanish) and one pupils with a Polish mother has Polish as a working language. This year the situation has changed in so far as 2 pupils of the fourth grade also want to make use of the possibilities of this programme.
7 pupils (5 male, 2 female) would participate, 5 are from the third grade and 1 from the fourth who wants to do this project togehter with a friend, a pupil of the HTL St. Pölten (fourth grade).
The main activities are, same as the main emphasis of our school, wide-ranging., sometimes also highly specialised, in keeping with the programme of our school. Work in a laboratory (physical and chemical control of prime materials and products, surveillance of measuring instruments), simple commercial activities (accounting), work in the production process including surveillance of production (producing reports, help in optimizing production), agricultural work, help with waste disposal).
The project starts long before the application with its presentation to parents and pupils in September. With the help of a coordinator and by word of mouth of former interns, and with the help of a Letter of Intent the regulatory framework (length of stay, tasks, accommodation, eventual pay, working hour etc.) is defined. After the application the tasks and framing conditions are defined in more detail in a Learning Agreement and signed by all parties (pupils, School and partner companies). Monitoring during the work placement is mainly done by contact persons in the partner companies, the school is represented by project coordinator Christoph Zauner or, in especially difficult cases headmaster Johann Zechner, who can be contacted with questions and problems by the pupils and the companies by email or phone. The activities and the learning result should be documented by the issuing of a Europass by the contact person and by an evaluation according to the principles of the Transcript of Record by the contact person at the end of the stay.
One the one hand the results and effects of this project will – as has been said – increase the competences of the participants and lead to a better qualification for the job market. On the other hand, the technical and cultural exchange will benefit the partner organisations and the school, since internships abroad increase competence also within the companies and the eduction of the school. Bymaking known and documenting the project and its result (reports, publication in the school annual and on the school homepage and in, perhaps, in local papers, informative presentations for other pupils and parents) the idea behind Erasmus + will be made known to a wider public.
