The project – We Learn How to Teach Better – raising the competences of teachers of Gimnazjum im. Jana Pawła II (John Paul’s secondary school) in Istebna, answers the needs stated in the School’s European Strategic Plan in the areas of: 1. the increase of the level of basic skills, the increase of the level and quality of teaching Mathematics and Science, the raise of students’ learning motivation, the development of ICT skills, engaging both students and teachers in self-studying processes. 2. the increase of quality and effectiveness in foreign language teaching both for talented students and those with learning problems. 3. the growth of the quality of pedagogical work in terms of teaching multiculturalism and tolerance, fighting against xenophobia and discrimination , simultaneously with building the feeling of proudness of students’ own roots, tradition and culture. There will be 11 experienced teachers taking part in the 23 planned mobilities. The teachers are still working on developing their competences and skills, they are very engaged in the school life and have great experience in sharing their knowledge with colleagues. All the participants will organize workshops for the teachers from their school and from the whole region, sharing the knowledge gained on the courses and promoting the Erasmus Plus Programme. The teachers will improve their language skills, enrich their workshop, learn new foreign language teaching methods and the ways of raising students’ motivation, teaching key competences, increasing the attractiveness and effectiveness of the teaching process, get to know the European teaching standards including the use of active methods and ICT in the teaching process. They will increase their language competence, as now they are preparing to incorporate CLIL. The teachers will enrich their pedagogical skills , especially in terms of teaching tolerance. Through incorporating the new skills and knowledge into the teaching process, the activity of students in the self-studying process will be increased, the key competences, students motivation and belief in their abilities will be developed. Teachers’ self-esteem and prestige will be raised, their activity, involvement, motivation, social skills, independence and courage in decision making will be developed. If the students and teachers realize how rich their own culture is and get to know the other cultures, they will better understand what national identity is and be conscious about everyone’s right to be an equal part of the society. Throughout the personal contact with teachers from other countries, being in a foreign country and contact with other cultures, our teachers will better understand the notion of “multiculturalism”, which will then become a core element in their teaching process. All the teachers will gain the knowledge how to prepare and realize a project and get the practical skills of using eTwinnig. Establishing cooperation between our teachers and teachers from other countries, learning about different educational systems and teacher jobs’ reality in other European countries should result in a partnership programme in the future. Incorporating CLIL in the teaching process and taking part in a partnership programme will improve students’ language skills, which will later help them to get a better job in tourism in the region they live and simultaneously make the place more attractive for foreign tourist. Better exam results, especially in foreign languages, mathematics and science will also be the measurable effect. The openness of the school, the teachers and the students to foreign cultures and values will result in the development of the need of cooperation between Poland and other European countries, together with the increase of the sense of national identity and proudness of their own region. Contacts between teachers and the partnership programme will also be a good Chance to promote the school and the region with its rich culture and tourist values.
