We’re learning so as to teach well
Szkoła Podstawowa nr 112 Przymierza Rodzin im. Jana Pawła II in Warsaw is a big non-public school which ensures a high level of education. We accept children of different abilities. Teaching staff is open to educational challenges and have had good experience with the European projects: CLILL and eTwinning. Our aim is to become, in the near future, a school open to students of the pedagogical department of Warsaw University.
We are aware of the fact that the decision to introduce training of future teachers to our school work plan is a huge responsibility. The mentor-teachers must show a high level of competences therefore they constantly have to raise their skills. As mentors they must be able to help future teachers to choose the teaching methods appropriate to learners’ needs, introduce them to new technologies used in education nowadays, show how a modern school functions.
The implementing of the European Plan of School Development will not only raise the quality of teaching in our school but will also allow the students of pedagogy to learn about new teaching methods tailored to various children’s needs. It will also encourage the cooperation between European schools, lifelong learning and team work.
To get prepared for this new role we have set apart 8 areas of training for the teachers of various subjects as well as for the teachers working with children in the school afternoon clubs. Twenty teachers of our school will take part in courses of teaching methodologies and observe how an autonomous school works (job shadowing) in order to improve their teaching skills. This will result in upgrading their qualifications regarding CLIL, the Montessori system, tutoring and inclusive teaching.
Improving teachers’ language skills and the abilities to use new technologies as well as establishing international contacts will help them to open to new challenges and active involvement in the e-Twinning projects. This, in turn, will enable them to pass on the experience gained during the teachers’ mobilities to others and make them well prepared to their new roles as mentors and guides to the students of pedagogy.
