The main aim of this course goes in two directions. The course will give important improvement of the skills for the participants and new inspiration. The course wil improve their teaching in social subjects and religion througnew knowledge about how Sicily have been a meeting point for different culture and religion.The relevanse for Kristiansund/Norway is huge because of our geographic position (Oscean as a comunication road and a globalication factor). In this way the European dimention will be important.

Sicily, a chain of Civilisations
One of the chain course themes is how cultural heritage never can be defined in isolation, but always is the result of interaction between various backgrounds. The basic theme is being worked out in several travelling courses: Tracing back Europe (Europe and the Middle East), Las Otras Orillas (Europe - Northern Africa / Europe - the New World) and Searching for Sampo, the north between east and west.
During the Sicily course the theme will be studied in the many and different cultural layers which can be distinguished in this centrally located Mediterranean island: Phoenicians, Greeks, Carthaginians, Romans, Arabs, Normans, Germans, Spanish, Italians. Sicilian history in fact covers all major periods and influences in European history and culture. This will lead to a fundamental discussion about: 'Civilisations: chains or clashes'.
The other direction of the ideas of the project includes the aim that this participation in "Sicily, a chain of Cicilisations" will resoult in a new aplication for a support to a course for up to 12 teachers from the school. We are planning more or less the same content as mentioned above. But we want to organize our own course to lower the vcost and to adapt the content to our needs. Our aim is to use the cours to give skills and motivation to improve our teaching and cooperation between different subjects. We also want to use this teaching to focus on the resources the imigrant students are bringing with them.
Because of the huge involving of the management in the project their possibility to improve their pedagogical involving will be good.
