In this project Allianssi Youth Exchanges will send a female 28 year old Finnish volunteer to a project of Tunisian organisation AJMEC for one year. AJMEC has been involved in the EVS programme as a hosting organisation earlier and this project is continuation on their activities among the Tunisian youth. This is the first time the sending organisation is sending a volunteer to a southern Mediterranean country. In Tunisia AJMEC has different cooperation organizations and the volunteer will work together wiht these organizations. These organizations are local youth center in Kalaa kebir, handicap center AIRM Sousse, local high school and we also have collaboration with, JCI Akouda and Rotary Club El Kantaui. The volunteer will have versatile tasks in different fields, but particularly related to environment, because she has a degree in sociology and environmental policy so she can use her knowledge and contribute towards the environmental actions planned. SSome of the planned activities combine active citizenship and environmental issues, for example the beach cleaning campaign in June and the recycling projects. One of the main campaigns of the host organisation is to promote mutual solidarity in local community where the volunteer will take part in working in a local youth center (Dar Chabeb) and in a center for handicapped (Kalaa Kebira). The volunteer can bring new perspective and ideas to these projects and she is also encouraged to create her own personal project. This project is a great opportunity not only to the volunteer but also to local youth to get involved in a non-formal project, learn about new cultures and get international experience. The reciprocal intercultural learning is an important dimension in this project. Through this project the partner organisations would like to fight together against stereotypes and discrimination. The volunteer from Europe awakes the interest of Tunisian youth towards other cultures and raises awareness of European Union and its values. The project fits very well in the the hosting organisation`s acitivities aiming at empowering the local youth and tackling the socio-economic changes.
