School is an institution fulfilling educational tasks in a methodical and persistent way. It is an institutionalised system of passing knowledge. However, the knowledge students are supposed to acquire is not only about meeting all the requirements of the school subjects. They need expertise they can use not only in Hungary but also in any labour market all over Europe. Being cosmopolitan has now become an essential need everywhere. Institutions that do not decide to follow that path fall behind and lose popularity among students facing the career choice. The secondary school certificate must imply that the graduate is a well-prepared and responsible European citizen. To achieve all this, schools need educators who are brilliant not only in their field but also are familiar with foreign educationalsystems and the latest trends in educatio The eight participants are seven teachers in further development courses and six teachers in job shadowing activities at partner schools: • members of school management• teamleaders• consultants/experts• language teachers• vocational teacher• librarian• graduation project team member We needed to take two personal changes in the project because one of our colleagues left our school in September for having another job in another institution so a team member took her place to go on a job shadowing activity. In the other case the librarian colleague got pregnant and had a baby during the school year so instead of her we chose a teacher of economics to join the group and go on another language course in another country which was successfully made. Over half of the colleagues are experienced in public relations enough to help new participants. When choosing the members of our team, it was important to include teachers (‘multiplicators’) who are able to publicise their newly gained experience among colleagues and students of the widestpossible range. The preparatory phase of our project includes an attempt at making our school international. This endeavour requires a regular communication with the partners. Our project concludes with a collective written assessment of the program. • to observe and employ foreign educational methods • to familiarise with internship training systems The colleagues could observe the internship training system of Germany in the vocational training centre of the German school but they could not visit the places of internship outside the school so they could get a partial overview of the training system. On the other hand in the Italian school our colleague could take part in a sightseeing tour outside the school guided by a student of tourism and visit her place of internship in a Tourinform office. • to gain management experience in foreign institutions • to familiarise with tourism traning in Mediterranean countries In the Spanish and Italian partner schools the colleagues could observe many lessons in Spanish, English and Italian. In each case the local teachers were always able to help or translate. Furthermore they provided course books and other helpful materials to get easily know the curriculum of tourism in these countries and share this information here in our school. • to compare graduation project work in foreign countries, to adopt efficient methods Only the colleague making her job shadowing activity in Germany managed to change experience through meetings with the local teachers. • to develop ICT (Information and Communication Technology) competence • to develop colleagues’ foreign language skills in the target language environment • to develop and use colleagues’ interpersonal (soft) skills • to convey European values based on personal experience among our students Major steps of accomplisment• gaining experience in tourism training• gaining management experience in Belgium There were not any previous plans for participants to teach during their job shadowing activities though three colleagues had the opportunity to teach German, English or French in Belgium or Italy which they considered really successful. -Our teachers were eager to share all their experience and knowledge they gained abroad with the students and teachers at our school and with its partner institutions. Our school maintains a great relationship with the local television and newspapers and boasts an up-to-date website (http://bethlen-debr.sulinet.hu/). Thus the information we obtained now is widely available to everyone concerned. As the result of our project we were glad to be highlighted by the DSZC in different forums and meetings as we are successful in writing and transacting projects. We held a dissemination day for our fellow colleagues from other schools to show the methods we learnt and our institution was considered to be a good example of taking part in international projects and we were asked to share any information about our mobilities in a road-show in the schools of the DSZC to encourage everyone to apply any Erasmus+ projects.
