The EQArep project proposal is based on the fact that the higher education institutions face a steadily growing interest amongst students and all stakeholders in higher education and the public at large in accessing detailed and reliable information on individual study programmes, faculties and higher education institutions, and especially on quality at programme and at institutional level. Among the existing tools for providing transparent information like the Bologna transparency tools (Qualifications Framework for the EHEA, Diploma supplement, ECTS) and rankings or classifications, quality assurance plays a major role in fostering transparency of European higher education.As stated in the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the EHEA (ESG), reports of external quality assurance procedures should be public. However, reports vary a lot in terms of structure and content and also as regards publication channels and strategies. Thus their contribution to the comparative dimension of transparency of higher education at the European level is still relatively limited. Given this, the EQArep project aims at establishing "European standards for quality assurance reports".The project will map the current publication practices, explore the different needs of stakeholders for transparent and comparable information, develop standards for different types of quality assurance reports in the EHEA and evaluate whether a European template for quality assurance reports is feasible.The outcomes of the project shall result in a recommendation to quality assurance agen-cies on the content and form of informative and approachable quality assurance reports. Thus the envisaged impact will be a higher degree of comparability of quality assurance reports and consequently a better contribution of quality assurance to transparency of higher education at the European level.
