TEACH: Translating and implementing Evidence based theory and Assessment into the Classroom practice to Heighten education for all With this project we want to improve the quality of education and assessment in order to provide optimal learning opportunities for all the pupils in the classroom, including the children with specific educational needs. We strive to obtain education where all children can develop their talents optimally and that gives the best education and support possible to every individual pupil. We want to build a bridge between theory and practice, between knowledge organizations and the field of education. This project involves a cooperation between partners that are a mix of knowledge centers, local governments and pupil guidance centers. The partners work together on the same goal (more evidence based practice to ensure more education for all) but with a different expertise and from a different setting. The four partners in this project are TOPunt Gent (association of pupil guidance centers), The University of Granada (department of Personality, Assessment and Psychological Treatment), Tallinna Haridusamet (Tallinn Education Department) and Skolförvaltningen Mölndals stad (Department of Childcare and Education). There is a lot of international research and literature on what works to improve children’s learning opportunities and what is (in)effective in education and in the guidance of pupils. However, we find that this evidence-based knowledge does not find its way enough to the practice in the field. There needs to be more active knowledge transfer. Furthermore, knowing that something is (in)effective is often not enough for implementation. This project wants to implement evidence based, effective, inclusive approaches into the classroom practice, in the support system at school and other partners that work with pupils (with specific educational needs). We want to transfer the knowledge of good education for all into the classroom (e.g. dynamic assessment, effective learning, …) so that all pupils will benefit from the more effective approach. This project wants to have a direct influence on the practice in the classroom and go further there where research stops, namely the publication of the results. During this project we will focus on translating the theory, the findings of research into good practices. We analyze the relevant research literature on what works to improve children’s learning opportunities, we select the most important conditions that have to be met to obtain good inclusive education and we decide on a shortlist of priority recommendations. To implement these priority recommendations into the classroom practice, they will be translated into a course for teachers and an experimental group of schools/teachers/pupil guidance centers. Trough intervision sessions and evaluation with the use of a questionnaire, we will obtain feedback from the participants of the course and experimental groups on the effectiveness of the proposed recommendations and on their experiences to stimulate further implementation of these recommendations. These results will be summarized in guidelines on how to implement evidence based recommendations into the classroom, with good practices and an overview of the implementation strategies. These guidelines should be user friendly and applicable in the concrete school environment, so schools, teachers and pupil guidance centers are supported to improve inclusion in their educational practice. The list of priority recommendations, the teacher course and the guidelines will be our outputs, available for further dissemination. Also an electronic learning platform will be used as an interactive sharing platform. This e-platform will function as a mean for communication between partners during the time of the project. It will also be a mean of dissemination, since this learning platform will be disclosed at the end of the project and the outputs mentioned above will be freely accessible. To stimulate further dissemination a springcourse will be organized to introduce the project and its background, the list of priority recommendations on evidence based inclusive approaches and the guidelines for implementation into the classroom. This will be complemented by testimonies of participants of the project. Through the cooperation with local teachers, schools, local government, knowledge centers, and pupil guidance centers) we hope to improve the quality of education for all children and obtain more inclusion by stimulating innovation and evidence based practice in the classroom.
