Transition to Independency

All involved partners are active in the field of care for disabled people in the way that brings more independency into their daily life. Many of them are active in the field of employment, training people with various disabilities so that they would be able to get a job, earn money and lead their lives according their own desires. To reach this point is not always easy, every client needs to learn about himself, his/her capabilities, opportunities, desires, but also learn how to overcome issues such as discrimination, underestimation by people who care for them - even by their family members. In every country, there exist other methods how to help disabled people to reach independency and this partnership would like to share these views and methods. These might involve special trainings or education work with their families, carers, etc.In Slovakia, this problem is even more topical than in other countries as many adult disabled people are still living in huge social institutions, where they are provided by health and social care, but are not motivated towards transition to an independent life. This partnership was established in order to share methods and models used in partner countries leading towards independency of disabled people and collect them in one comprehensive guide, so that it could be used in all partner countries. In this learning partnership we would like to:• become aware of elements necessary for transition towards an independent life of disabled people• explore existing methods and models of this transition used in partner countries• find common but also diverse views, points, and strategies • collect all discussed issues into one comprehensive material that would be presented at the final conference
