Transformation of Party and Political Landscape in EU Countries during Post Crisis Period

The Institute of Europe of Russian Academy of Science (IERAS) has been engaged in research of the party-political systems of European countries for many years, including contemporary trends of their development. A deep and comprehensive study of contemporary trends of transformation of party-political systems of the EU countries is of theoretical and practical interest for both scientists and political elite, mass media and civil society, and should be further studied from the cross-country perspective with the participation of the expert community from different countries.The IERAS proposes to engage experts from London Metropolitan University (UK), Foundation "Slavs" (Bulgaria), University of Passau (Germany) and the Institute for East European Studies (Poland) within the framework of this project and arrange five round tables in each of these countries for the period from September 2015 to December 2016. It is expected that experts, professors, representatives of parties, media and civil society of the host country and 3-4 representatives from other countries will be united in the work of these round tables and it is expected to discuss the current trends of reforming the party-political systems of these countries and the reasons for these transformations. The representatives of five countries will be able to discuss the causes of the phenomena and draw conclusions.At the final round table, which will be held in Russia at the end of 2016, its organizers will summarize the results of discussions at the previous round tables, the proceedings of which will be published in Russian and English. These materials will be distributed among public authorities, political parties, NGOs, and universities of these countries. The participants of the project plan to create a research network on the basis of the participating organizations to conduct the ongoing monitoring research and studies of the process of transformation of party-polititical systems in EU countries.
