The innovational systems cannot be interpreted either apart from each other or isolated from other innovational systems designed for bigger geographical units, country or community. The economic relations of particular regions include innovational connections, cooperation, and in certain case, competition as well. The South-Great Plain region is surrounded by a Serbian and a Romanian region. The current project aims to design the Serbian Vojvodina and South-Great Plain innovational strategy. There are several similarities concerning the economic capabilities of the two regions but the fact that Hungary is an EU member state while Serbia is not results in big differences. Concerning the project it is very important that the accession of Serbia is in preparation. It is justified that the innovational strategic planning should be done in both regions by realising the cooperation with the neighbouring region and by the harmonization and optimal exploitation of resources. The first innovational strategy in the South-Great Plain region was made in 2004, and it has been constantly revised since 2008. Currently the subject of the new strategic work material is the social coordination inside the region. There has not been a regional innovational strategy in Vojvodina yet. However, the South-Great Plain strategy also stops at clarifying relationships linked to national and communal innovation and it does not pay attention to cross-border innovational relations that are also important. The aim of this project is to fill these gaps Achievements: A regions innovation strategy aims to increase the economic competitiveness of that region through the correct selection of innovation activities which form the innovation system. The innovation system cannot be interpreted separately or in isolation from other innovation systems designed for larger geographical units. The economic relations of particular regions include innovation connections, cooperation and, in this particular case, also healthy and motivational competition. Strategic planning requires cooperation with the neighbouring region and harmonisation and optimal exploitation of resources. The South Great Plain region has vast experience in creating innovation strategies. The regions first strategy was made in 2004 and it has been constantly revised since 2008. Thus the Hungarian partner was able to provide a lot of help to the Serbian partner. In order to achieve their objectives, the project partnership organised trainings, devised a joint questionnaire, and created a common database for participants in innovative ventures in different fields. On the basis of the statistical analyses of 100-100 completed questionnaires and performed secondary data collection, the partners were able to formulate recommendations and, in the end, elaborate regional and interregional strategies in the cross-border region. The efforts of the project partners to increase competitiveness in the border region are essential and exchange of experiences, skills and knowledge can prove to be resourceful. Most importantly, their efforts encourage innovative practices and ideas while significantly reducing an organisations reaction time in accommodating the quickly changing and innovative business environment.
