The Eurocodes, new European standards for design of construction works, provide a basis for unified European market of high quality construction products, services and innovations leading to strengthen the competitiveness of the European construction industry, which is presently a significant source of employment. The Eurocodes, supported by the European Commission, provide necessary means of giving a presumption of conformity with the Essential Requirements of the Construction Products Directive for construction works and products (CE Marking), as well as the reference for technical specification in public contracts. They are built on the best European practice, expertise and present research achievements. Therefore, the effective and early application of Eurocodes in all the CEN Member States yields considerable economical advantages. However, it appears that application of Eurocodes in building practice is a rather complicated and time consuming process. The proposed project “Transfer of Innovations Provided in Eurocodes” addresses the urgent need to implement Eurocodes in practice in five partner countries joined in a project consortium. The project is focused on the National Priority 1 – “construction and architecture”, and also on the Priority 4 of the Leonardo da Vinci programme – “skills development of adults in the labour market”. The consortium of partners under the leadership of the Klokner Institute of the Czech Technical University in Prague includes research institutions and universities from five CEN Member States (CZ, ES, DE, NL, IT). They are represented by senior researchers, experienced teachers and lecturers actively involved in national systems of the lifelong education in construction industry. All contact persons of the proposed project are involved in the national and international standardisation activities in CEN and ISO, currently in the process of national implementation of the new European standards for structural design. The project outcomes include vocational training facilitating to transfer the innovations from Eurocodes to the target groups, the development of original training materials including guidebooks and software tools, web site for dissemination and informative purposes, e-learning and courses and seminars. The project outcomes will be primarily used by civil engineers, designers, technicians and officers of public authorities. The project should directly contribute to the effective application of Eurocodes in the partner countries. Outcomes will be offered to other CEN Member States and associated countries.
