TRANSCOAST
Date du début: 30 juin 2008,
Date de fin: 29 juin 2013
PROJET
TERMINÉ
The main aim of TRANSCOAST is to strengthen the economic vitality of coastal regions in the 2 Seas area by supporting the planning, design and implementation of measures to transform derelict and sub-standard port areas into new functions – most notably as marinas and facilities for maritime leisure and tourism (yachting, water sports). The partners from around the entire zone are all planning or starting a transformation of their degraded port areas to give their towns and regions a socio-economic impulse and chose to enhance their efforts by benefitting from each others experience.Their main activity targets the physical regeneration of port areas in decline, but partners will also address the challenges of port safety in the transition from commercial ports to marinas. The partnership will also mobilise local communities to engage in the maritime economy in the wake of these transformations, and to encourage them to use these in their everyday life, for their employment, recreation and overall quality of life. Expected Results: What are the key results of the project?Studies and Plans- Cross border action plans for 7 TRANSCOAST sites produced- Regeneration or territorial integration measures implemented on 6 TRANSCOAST sites- Feasibility study delivered for 1 TRANSCOAST site- Synthesis report presenting a set of generic tools and approaches for port regeneration developed- Economic impact model developed and validated- 1 compendium of tools and approaches for transforming ports and coastal areas producedPart Safety and Use- Local authorities responsible for safety in the targeted port areas will have the Transcoast information- Yachtsmen and sailors and local communities use the targeted portsCommunity engagement and Communication- Community involvement programmes for 6 TRANSCOAST partner locations jointly designed and implemented.- Targeted activities/investments on 4 TRANSCOAST partner locations implemented- Synthesis report and validated catalogue of community involvement tools produced.- 1 Communication strategy produced- 1 Website launched and regularly updated- 2 Conferences organised- 8 regional dissemination sessions organised (2 per country/region represented)- 4 newsletters published- 15 appearances in press/mediaAre all partners and territories benefitting from the results? All the partners will benefit from the results of the Transcoast project and the activities of the so called Joint Activity Teams. Beside this, the territories of the partners and the coastal zones of the 2 Seas Programma will benefit from the results. To achive this, we use the communication by website, Newsletters, flyers and of course the site vists and conferences about Transcoast.Final beneficiaries of the project are: public authorities, politicians and policymakers in the wider 2 Seas area responsible for regeneration transformation of ports and coastal areas, professionals in regeneration and transformation of ports and coastal areas, stakeholder organisations in ports and coastal areas in transformation. The marina operators and businesses in sectors of the economy (sailing and yachting, tourism, hospitality, etc.) will benefit from regeneration of the economy, the local communities and the general public in coastal areas in the 2 Seas area will benefit from the improved facilities and transformations undertaken by project activity creating new leisure and economic opportunities. What are the effects / outcomes for the territories involved? As regards the future we hope we could reach the following outcomes through realisation of Transcoast:-The safety of marinas will be improved on the basis of knowledge acquired within the projects. It is not only about the safety in the harbours, but also and especially about innovations of the connection/link between the harbours and the sea or estuaries (inlets). 2- Through transformation of employment in the maritime sector carried out by project partners, knowledge about integration of new employment is being acquired and disseminated (between the Transcoast partners and areas around the North Sea and between France and the UK). As an example we would like to mention the transition of a fishery-industry to a water sports industry in for example SW England.Within Transcoast a specific Economic model is being developed. This model gives, at the end of the project, the partners and the whole coastal area along the North Sea and La Manche the opportunity to carry out a benchmark with the introduction of new developments in coastal areas. By making use of the model the government could gain insight into the possible positive economic consequences of new developments. Questions like what is the economic value associated to a transformation of a commercial port to a marina? The model gives the government and industry direct insight into the potency of new investments and rural plans. The Transcoast partners are developing and testing a model, after which the model will be available for all organisations and companies along the coast.
