This Project will continue the tradition of cross-border tourism data exchange and shared methodologies established under the Interreg IIa Transmanche Tourism Research Programme (1999-2001), extending its terms of reference to embrace new target audiences, a wider geographical area and advanced technologies.* Key actions will include web-based provision of year-round regional tourism business performance data, new profiling of cross-channel visitors to determine market evolution, development of a new innovative tourism events impacts evaluation model and pioneering the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping for both visitors and tourism professionals, plus a range of niche market studies.* The overall purpose of the Programme is to furnish enhanced 'information for decisions' that will assist tourists and citizens in pre-planning visits; help tourism businesses to improve their turnover or maintain their competitive edge; and allow tourism professionals to adopt a more long-term and sustainable approach to tourism development in the Region.
