Training of Medical Students and Young People as Promoters of Prevention of Drug Abuse

Recognising the important role that young people can play in drug abuse prevention, the project partnership will develop a drug abuse prevention programme for young medical students/young doctors. The project partnership will collect 'know how' on the drug abuse prevention field from European expert bodies. This material will inform the content of the training programme, which will incorporate modern training methods and new information technologies to effectively deliver course material. A key aspect of the training programme will be the involvement of young students and professionals in the development of modules and materials for training and practical work experience. These groups will actively work alongside European experts in the development of the final training programme. Additional emphasis will be placed upon trainees gaining practical experience in drug abuse prevention through the use of real life case studies for which a database of cases will be established. Self-training and peer-training will also be encouraged as innovative learning approaches and will be accompanied by a programme of project seminars and workshops. Input from a range of European experts will provide students with professional guidance, with courses principally delivered through existing educational bodies such as universities. In addition to the training programme itself, a series of study manuals/guidebooks will also be developed on paper and on CD-Rom. The end project results will be made available to existing drug abuse prevention programmes across the partner countries, with awareness of the developed materials being raised via national and European conferences specific to the field of drug abuse prevention.
