Training for the Future - Sustainability Vocational Training for Decision Makers and Managers

The project will develop practice-oriented training for students and company managers on the topic of corporate 'sustainability' with respect to both economic and environmental considerations. A 'needs analysis' of 'sustainability', for both companies and managers, will be undertaken in the participating countries and on the basis of its results, training packages will be developed on 'sustainability'. Two core-training packages will be developed through a rigorous piloting process in Hungary, Estonia and the UK. The first is a full training course for specialists (graduate students; environmental engineers/managers) to improve their skills and competencies in applied 'sustainability'. This course will centre on practice-based training and will lead to certification for successful participants. The second training course is targeted at non-specialists (present and future decision makers; middle and senior managers). This course will centre on raising awareness of the importance of corporate sustainability and will prepare participants to acquire skills and competencies in environmentally and socially responsible decision-making. Training, for both courses, will be delivered through face-to-face lecturing and teaching. Other training methods will include group work, participant presentations, workshops and individual project work. A multimedia CD-Rom learning kit will also be developed to accompany the training courses. The project will result in the publication (both hard-copy and electronic) of a handbook of corporate sustainability and a trainer's handbook, an internet discussion platform (discussion forum) for training participants and a database of companies participating in the training, with a guide to the services they offer. Dissemination will include a dedicated project website and a final project conference, and will utilise partners' established international dissemination networks.
