TRADITIONAL CRAFTS + MODERN BUSINESSES

Between 21-31 May 2015, the Youth Association from Transylvania will organize an Erasmus+ Youth Exchange in Romania, in the Transylvanian hillside village of Ruganesti. The exchange called Traditional Crafts + Modern Businesses has 6 partners, with 5 participant and 1 group leader, each. The exchange is directed at youth who are interested in the traditional crafts of other countries, who want to experience the area of access to rural people's daily lives, habits and crafts and who come from rural areas. The aim is to prepare the youth in starting businesses in the field of rural development traditional sustainability and local planning. The participants will be active for 10 days in and around Ruganesti gaining insight into 10 crafts and learning, practicing a lot of them. These crafts and trades will be wood carving, bee keeping, basketry, straw hat making, pottery, wool planking, medicinal herbs gathering, traditional pork meat preparation, bread baking and horseshoe making. After trying out each crafts we will talk with the craftsmen and women and offer them marketing, product development suggestions and entrepreneurial ideas. Beside the craft activities, each country will teach us traditional games and we will play those. We will also vist Bezid lake at Criseni and surrounding villages. We will then write draft articles about the crafts and our learning achievements. On the last day we will organize a large event for the community where all the craftsmen we worked with, the participants and the local community, where the craftsmen show their trades and the participants play their traditional games with the community. Days 0 and 9 will also have introduction and finalization activities. The working methods done during the exchange will all be non formal methods which will ensure that the participants have a meaningful learning experience. These learning achievements will be certified through detailed Youthpass certificates written by the participants as a result of supported reflective activities.
