Towards social eLearning environments

As the EDEN conference of this year 2007 describes clearly: the rapid evolution andwidespread penetration of new media and technologies, emerging new tools andsolutions constantly change and challenge the ways and means of accessing andsharing knowledge”. The Social Web and collaborative content creation are foreseen toensure accessibility and new pedagogical strategies and changes in order to attractusers in a more empathetic approach. Learning is incorporating social ICT tools and astrategic use of them will be a strength to support the European strategy to become apowerful knowledge economy and to help the development for growth and jobs.Within the above framework, accreditation, certification and assessment are key issuesto boost, as well as quality. The importance of workplace learning, non-formal andinformal learning, and the need of common competence frameworks is increasing. The eTTCampus 2.0 project aims at consolidating the European Virtual Campuscreated in the previous project for teachers and trainers as a reference of new ICTtrends and tools in education, opening it to a wider and multi-level target audience, transforming the campus into a social eLearning environment (eLearning 2.0),integrating mentoring services and ensuring the campus as a reference of a knowledgemanagement network of “ICT in education and training” professionals. The transformation of the campus into a social environment intends to prioritise anassessment process which is to be named “e-social reputation”. This will be a tool forthe management of teachers’ and trainers’ competences to be included in the portfolioand based on a social "certification" process.Tangible outcomes of the project will be based on the transformation and improvementof eTTcampus collaborative website into a social web strategy, with an added value ofnew pedagogic resources and users, a database of rated Teachers and Trainers, learning services (besides pedagogic resources) and guidelines for the design andimplementation of social web and its impact in education and training. The eTTcampus 2.0 consortium is based on eTTtnet and eTTcampus partners whofrom 2001 are working on practices related to new scenarios, competence frameworks,eLearning technology and quality.
