During the years of work in the field of international volunteering we realized how the experience of voluntary work in foreign environment is of a great importance to develop and improve various skills, competencies and knowledge of young people, particularly soft skills and learning responsibilities and self initiative.When considering and handling volunteers, adequate preparation is extremely important in order to facilitate the volunteers coping with challenges in the host environment, to correct their expectations and motivation to work in a foreign environment, and to learn to work constructively in a direction of equal dialogue, and active and not merely virtual participation.In order to ensure quality and effective preparation for all volunteers who are going to the countries of the global south, with our partner organizations we have decided to develop the idea of establishing distance learning for global volunteers. It would have longer time frame, cover more topics, it would be more professionally designed, and it would bring together different professionals, youth workers, volunteers, etc. in the field of international volunteering and global learning.In frame of the 3-day meeting in September 2015 in Slovenia, leaders, volunteers and professionals from organizations in the field of international volunteering (for development), global learning and IT from Slovenia, Italy, Ireland, France and the Czech Republic will:- Verify the feasibility of setting up the distance learning for global volunteers- Develop and conceptually establish project ideas of the training;- Divide areas for further work between partner organizations, and continue looking for ways to finance development of this type of distance training.Methods of work will be interactive and participatory: working in groups, presentations, discussions within the open space, informal methods of evaluation (target, setting up in space, etc.), reflection, research conversation, SWOT analysis, etc.The result of the project will be a prepared project idea of setting up distance learning for global volunteers and further search for funding for the realization of this idea.The project will affect the further regulation of the global volunteering at the national and European level, as it will offer an idea for the high quality training tools for global volunteers, and will be attractive to many European organizations in the field of international volunteering (for development).
