PISA surveys show the performance of young learners in Wales in national qualifications demonstrates that Welsh pupils lag behind in science, maths and reading. Wales also fell behind the rest of the UK. This has been the thrust behind the decision by the Welsh Government decision to radically overhaul the entire curriculum and this project aims to investigate why our European partners perform better under in these critical areas of study. To meet the needs highlighted above we have identified 3 objective where we believe, with the support of European colleagues, changes can be made in order to impact significantly on learning outcomes and raise Wales' status within European education. These 3 objectives are:a) Improved and inspired Leadership and Management b) Innovative strategies to develop Academic Achievement for allc) Improved approaches to Wellbeing and Nurture The participants will be from schools and will be headteacher, senior/middle leaders and aspiring leaders and will take part in training for professionals in Finland, Poland, Germany and Italy. The planned training will develop inspirational leadership qualities amongst school leaders at all levels, provide training in methodology and strategies for raising achievement in other countries and train leaders in the philosophy of wellbeing.By tackling these crucial areas in our schools we can improve quality of management and teaching competences thus raising standards amongst pupils. Regular meetings will take place throughout the project to encourage collaborative working locally and nationally and multiplier events will be held during the life of the project to encourage widening participation amongst schools across Wales. This project will:- open minds to the connection between formal and informal education, - lead to developed leaders for 21st century schools - develop participants with enhanced pedagogical skills- lead participants to a broader understanding of practices in other countries - increase consortium member capacity to effect changes thus updating and internationalising their schools.
