Toleranz fördern - Kompetenzen stärken - Trainees get to know the Polish trade

The mobility project was called „Support Tolerance – Strengthen Skills – Trainees get to know the Polish trade.” Our project aimed at basic qualifications in vocational education. The target group were trainees and retrainees currently doing their apprenticeship respectively retraining in the context of a program for underprivileged young adults in the external workshops of the Berufsförderungswerk des Handwerks. The participants were six trainees and two retrainees. The group consisted of two trainees as hairdressers, one retrainee for automotive mechatronics, one trainee as a professional practitioner in automotive engineering, two trainees as professional practitioners of wood processing as well as one trainee and one retrainee as a carpenter. The goals of the mobility project were to expand the practical and relevant skills for the apprenticeship as well as the personal, verbal and intercultural competences. The participants were to be strengthened in their personal development. Their abilities and competences ought to improve in order to increase their employability and sensitise them for lifelong learning. The young people were deployed according to their professions in different handicraft businesses around the area of Swarzędz . Especially the apprentices from the field of carpentry and automotives discovered that in Poland individual production steps happen manually, outstanding handicraft results are being achieved at the same time. They were also impressed by the multitude of vocational training content and the good facilities of the vocational school. Most of the apprentices had none or little experience abroad. The project helped them to gain new experiences concerning their own mobility, they gained more self-confidence, independence and got to know a new cultural environment and language. The young people became more open and tolerant towards other cultures and people with a different cultural background, got to know a different cuisine and experienced the people in their host country as being very hospitable. Many described the project as a personal gain and benefit. Meeting polish apprentices and an extensive cultural program were part of the project. The program consisted short trips to Breslau and the lake region of Masuria. The young people were deeply impressed by the cultural and historical treasures of Poland. The participants of the mobility project received the Europass Mobility as recognition of their acquired knowledge and skills. Moreover, they received a certificate about their mobility experience issued by the polish partner organization.
