The main theme of our youth exchange is recent history. We are going to have young people attending from Latvia, Czech Republic, Italy and Slovakia. The project will take place in Pärnu, the summer capital of Estonia, from 18th of August 2015 until 27th of August 2015. This youth exchange is important because different people tell different stories about history and every nation has stories of its own. Therefore the main goal of our project is to make people apply critical thinking about what they’re taught and what they believe in. History is often used in the service of national interests or only told from the perspective of victors, which has created intolerance towards other nations among our generation. With this project we’d like to prove that there’s no point in hatred towards what happened in history. We should analyze these events and draw conclusions on how to make young people more tolerant not only regarding history, but general attitude aswell. We’d like to advocate non-formal learning and to show that informal education (for example via active learning methods) makes in-school subjects more interesting and beneficial. This experience will be enhanced by different viewpoints, traditions and norms that the partnering groups of different countries will bring to the project. Our final aim is to create a strong network of young people who would strengthen youth unity and work internationally. These people would be the ones who would influence others to have more tolerance towards one another, because noone is impeccable.
