The project "Together for memory", a youth exchange within the Key Action 1 of the Erasmus+ Programme, have involved 21 young people from three countries. The participating organisations were: Libera Palermo (Italy), Wetek-berlin gGmbH ( Germany), Fundacion Juventud y Cultura ( Spain)
The aim of the project was the promotion and the development of the collective memory that is understood not only as a representation of the past shared by a group or community but also as daily commitments to justice and peace.
In order to bring Europe closer to the younger generation, it is essential to promote and disseminate the European valuesby preserving the memory of the past. Italy, Germany and Spain have in common a sad past of dictatorship. New generations have to keep this in mind to better understand their present and to build a European society more aware and friendly toward other cultures and other countries.
The objective of the project is to answer the need for a lawful,democratic society with the sensitization of young peoples by introducing them to the importance of memory and by developing their sense of justice, active citizenship and anti-discrimination. All these values are essential for a functioning community as well asat local, national as at international level.
The main activities carried out during the youth exchange will be informal and non-formal activities, being essential features of the Erasmus+ Programme. Peer education is an important method which will have priority during the activities.
The idea of the project comes from the anti-mafia organisation Libera Palermo who has long experience in non-formal education aiming at the promotion of active citizenship and fostering social inclusion. Through the project the participating organisations can open new levels of cooperation in their field, further strengthening the international dimension of their work.
Objectives of the project:

- To promote the European values in accordance with Article 2 of the Treaty on European Union, more specifically to promote the human values of tolerance, respect of law, democratic equality, freedom, security and justice, antidiscrimination and cultural diversity etc
- To involve youngsters with fewer opportunities with the aim of their personal development and to contribute to their social integration;
- To make young people meet from other countries and to promote intercultural dialogue and cultural, religious and linguistic diversity;

- Promoting the Erasmus+ Programme as a tool in youth participation and in community development and to promote non-formal education as a tool for personal and professional development;

Furthermore the participating organisatons will strengthen their partnership which will lead to an efficient, long-term collaboration, enforcing the European dimension in the organisations.
The partner organisations will improve their skills in European project management and will consider the development of future projects within the framework of European programmes.
The project will impact the local communities and the international general public as well, sensitizing them about the collective memory understood as daily commitment to build a democratic, anti-racist and European society.
The target group, the organisations, other stakeholders and actors indirectly involved in the project will benefit from it through the contribution to the establishment of a European society based on respect, mutual understanding and the values of justice and lawfulness.
