Title: More, much better and more confidently Sándor Petőfi Lutheran High School can be found in a small town called, Mezőberény, in Békés County. Our high school, which has had a rich history, was able to distinguish itself from other schools by becoming one of the first German bilingual schools in the country in 1987. The high standard of the education set up new expectations and the management of the institution hired highly educated Hungarian and foreign teachers who were able to prepare our students for their school-leaving exams, for the international language exams and for further education. The achievements of the modern technology and the permanent challenges have been stimulating for our employees and for teachers in keeping up with the knowledge and usage of the tools of the Information and Communication Technology. Compared with other secondary grammar schools, the board of directors of our high school find it very important to obtain and provide the modern tools of ICT like, computers, laptops, interactive boards, white-boards, projectors, Internet, Wi-fi, printers, scanners etc. Our high school has bought some of them, but most of them were awarded after entering a European Union’s competition called:TÁMOP-3.1.4-08/2-2008-0001. In our high school, along with very intensive German and English has that has been going on since 1987, Information Technology has also been taught very intensively and at a high level especially in the advanced English classes and in the so called ’Arany János Talented Students’ Program, which is supported by the Hungarian Government. In order to be able to meet our students’ needs and match their speed to the more intensively developing world, we have to strive (by helping each other) to participate in Hungarian and international in-service trainings to get to know more about ICT tools and their methodology because we want to use them more and more often during our lessons. Our aim is to be better and more educated in ICT than our best students. To achieve this, we need a lot of practice and trainings. All the tools are around us. We just have to find the way towards them. Our colleague’s (Ms. Gizella Kecskeméti) in-service training and mobility is one of the ways to achieve the goal. Our colleague who is an English, Geography, and P.E. teacher has planned and applied for the ’Technology Enhanced Learning’ in-service training in Malta for the ETI –Executive Training Institute from 21 July to 1 August 2014. When she returns home, the knowledge that she will obtain during this two-week long course will be invested in a project for our school. It will be called ’More, much better and more confidently’. Our centermost aim is to provide an opportunity for everyone – the members of the different teams in our high school like: Foreign (English and Italian) and German panel; Ethics, Religion and Classical side of secondary school – Aesthetics panel; Mathematics, Physics and Information Technology panel; Science panel; for the disadvantaged students and for the official workers – who are interested in the project to get acquainted with the tools of ICT in every day usage. We want to explore and integrate the tools of ICT into the classroom, into the preparation of the projects, and use them at school and outside school in order to be more experienced and be able to add immense value, new information to the students, and to the whole world. Our goal is to organize meetings and give presentations monthly from the gained knowledge about the ICT tools and their methodology. During the presentations and workshops, our colleagues can practise how to handle tools and prepare a project on their own. Those students – mostly the disadvantaged (34) or physically handicapped (3) – who are interested in ICT can participate in it. We offer them one-on-one sessions, so we can improve their digital skills and competence, which will make an impression on their personal studies in the future. Our long-term plan is - considering the individual – to have the desire to improve his or her general knowledge, to ensure his or her better future, to improve his or her standards of living. The expected result is – after applying the gained knowledge, and after a lot of practice – everybody has to prepare his or her own project about a chosen topic twice a year, which will be presented in front of the audience. This is how all the small projects can become a ’big project’ and our high school will become more highly regarded. As a result of this, we won’t have to advertise our institution any more because we will educate ourselves, be able to use the modern tools of ICT, and speak at least one foreign language fluently. It will create quite a long-term effect on our institution. This gained knowledge will make us more self-confident, which can motivate us to realize our full potential as the valuable members we can be for the Hungarian education and for the European Union.
