In the rapidly changing world around us, any organization, our school included, should be flexible and versatile in order to keep up with the changes and adapt to the challenges brought about. Our school, in an effort to meet the needs of the times, is trying to find ways that will lead to its development into a provider of the greatest possible quality of education for all children, in a safe and creative environment. European dimension in education and internationalisation are components of modern educational organizations. In order to achieve this goal, since the beginning of the school year, the faculty has analyzed and assessed the current and forthcoming needs of our school and has come up with an action plan that will function as a guide in meeting these needs while promoting our vision for our school which as recorded in the action plan is for Our School to be “A laboratory of creativity, collaboration and democratic culture “. More specifically, we aim at: 1. The development of the creativity of our students through interdisciplinary modules and actions in the school place, 2. The development of a spirit of fairness, cooperation and solidarity for all children and the improvement of communication with their peers, teachers and parents and 3. The promotion of a democratic culture that will reflect in their knowledge and exercise of their democratic rights and obligations. Based on the above, we proceed to the submission of this application in order to give the opportunity to the staff of our school, enrich their knowledge on issues related to our predetermined needs as well as to learn by observing new methods and strategies which are applied by other schools in Europe and are related to the aforementioned issues. We have already contacted and agreed with four schools from abroad (Italy, Spain, Portugal and Estonia) to accommodate teachers from our school for a week. These teachers will observe how these schools manage cases of bullying and how they encourage children's creativity during the breaks. Also, we have pre-registered in training sessions offered by various institutions abroad. The topics we have chosen are : Building Efficient Relationships and Effective Conflict Management, Managing Emotions to Enhance Flow at Work, Inclusive teaching and training and Diverse society - Diverse classrooms. With these seminars we look forward to open new horizons in our educational practice, since it will help the professional development of our teachers and examine specific issues which affect both our teachers and our school. Through these seminars we seek new, modern ideas and concepts. The training sessions chosen, are offered by experienced trainers and we strongly believe that the combination of practical experience and the theoretical background will be very beneficial for the development and international identity of our school organization. The selection of teachers to participate in the above activities will take place in the beginning of the school year 2014-2015, after the teaching positions are filled. The teachers that will be selected will serve as nuclei diffusing acquired knowledge, attitudes, behaviors and skills they will have gained through participation in the program. According to our plans, 20 out of the 35 teachers expected to be employed in our school for the coming academic year, will participate in the program either as visitors to schools or trainees in seminars. The participation of our school staff in the above activities will have long term benefits for our school. The application of the new knowledge, skills, attitudes and behaviors that our teachers will bring with them, will assist in the implementation of the school’s action plan and fulfillment of our vision. The inclusion in the vision of our school will be binding all persons involved in the education project so they will make every effort to achieve the goals we set for the improvement of our school unit.
