TERMINÉ
Socio-healthcare systems are experiencing hard times due to demographic aging, in ensuring care to the over 65 population that is bound to double up within the next 50 years. To tackle this problem, the European Partnership for Innovations on Healthy and Active Aging, for a two-year-longer life expectancy of European citizens, encourages: A. prevention and screening for early diagnosis, B. integrated treatments and C. healthy lifestyle promotion. To turn these priorities into current practices of healthcare services, it is necessary to improve professional curricula and empower, among others, relational and communication competencies of health professionals and social operators. TOGETHER promotes transnational partnership to improve socio-healthcare intended for the most vulnerable patients (the disabled, the elderly etc.). The aim is to develop new curricula improving health professionals and social operators’ competencies thus fulfilling patients’ needs (physical, social, emotional) and affecting positively the motivation to healthier lifestyles and compliance with prescribed therapies. By applying a systematic approach, TOGETHER will value the increasingly pivotal role of caregivers, often migrants, in preserving the care-receiver’s health by supporting habits of vital importance like healthy eating, socialization, cultural interest, and mobilization.
TOGETHER envisages the following activities and results:
1) Initial research on current good practices carried out in European countries in socio-healthcare and vocational training for health professionals and social operators will produce a State of the Art. It will include a chapter dedicated to migrant caregivers’ needs, perspectives and ways to validate their working experience;
2) An innovative model of socio-healthcare intervention (including relational competences, screening and active lifestyle promotion management) will be designed to complement professional healthcare profiles and thus create synergies with family members and caregivers as well as enhance quality of care for the elderly and/or patients;
3) Design of a vocational training pathway for healthcare professionals with innovative methodologies (Pro-social approach, Roche; Trans-theoretical Model, DiClemente e Prochaska) that will use operationalized concepts to set up mutual cooperative working environment and facilitate a more effective transfer of the new competences;
4) Design of an assessment system of the training process (according to the ECVET model) and experimentation of the acquired practices
5) Assessment Report of the learning outcomes produced by the pilot training courses for healthcare professionals and socio-healthcare operators in each Partner country(4);
6) Follow up Report on the transfer of the TOGETHER model to the Partners’ countries practices
7) Workshops for and mainstreaming organized in all Partner countries (4);
8) Webpage design in dissemination Partner countries’ languages.
The project coordinated by ASL Caserta will include:
- The Social Cooperative “InVento” that takes care of people with special social and health problems. It organizes training and supervision courses for socio-healthcare operators and caregivers.
- The Ambito C8 (Comune Santa Maria C.V.) that overlaps with District 21 ASL CE, in the collaboration on The Individual Therapeutical Plan/Care budget shared among local healthcare and social services;
- The Autonomous University of Barcelona (ES) with the Applied Pro-sociality Workshop, a methodology that is currently used in schools and training contexts in some European countries and in Latin America.
- The training and professional Counselling Center HERTIN s.r.l. (Czech Republic), with a ten-year experience in professional training for local institutions and public healthcare companies;
- The Center for Health and Migration (Austria) the Trummer & Novak-Zezula OG that works as a private SME in the field of public health, with a special focus on patient centered care, patient-provider-communication, health promotion, and organisational development.
Methodology
The Pro-social approach will characterize the methodology adopted to enhance relational competencies of health professionals and social operators, which is of vital importance. This approach has been very effective in activating cooperative and empathic behaviors through specific verbal and non-verbal patterns. The increase of pro-sociality levels will reveal the effectiveness of the training process. The Transtheoretical Model by DiClemente and Prochaska will be used as evidence based methodology for changing lifestyle habits. TOGETHER will highlight the use of experiential methodologies that build up competences through role-plays, focus-groups and exercising with the purpose to foster a new definition of a socio-healthcare operator’s role and functions. Periodical monitoring will be used in the learning outcomes assessment.
