The project "To be or not to be... formal" aims to create links between the non-formal education activities run by Youth NGOs in different geographic and cultural contexts and the formal educational system. Furthermore it aims to produce an handbook to be used by youth workers in preparing international youth mobility and volunteering activities, focusing on educational aspects. The project is in particular focused on showing the positive educational impact of non-formal activities in the frame of socialization and social rehabilitation process toward young people at risk of social exclusion or social deviance or those who have fewer opportunities to get involved in similar actions. The project will involve participants from 6 countries from European Union, candidate countries, Asia and Africa, mixing together non-governmental organizations, public institutions and educational institutions, thus promoting a cross-sectorial cooperation and the development of cross-sectorial tools. In particular, the project will make it possible for a group of Youth workers and active volunteers to job-shadow and get familiar with the youth/social work done by different NGOs in several countries, will make it possible to involve a group of young people in international mobility activities to be "used" to test the effectiveness of such actions as non-formal educational tools and experiences and in the end will train a group of youth/social workers on educational aspects of international mobility, with special focus on youth exchanges and EVS.A group of researchers from Universities will monitor and assess the effective impact of such activities, providing further guidance and hints to NGOs dealing with this kind of activities. In the end, an handbook will be produced not only to summarize the result of the project, but mainly to indicate a model of work with young persons and young-adults who can benefit in educational, personal and social terms by their direct involvement in international mobility.Direct beneficiaries will be 84 young people (39 with fewer opportunities) and 15 youth workers and active volunteers. The project will in total include 18 activities and will involve 108 participants, trainers and youwh workers from 9 Organizations from Italy, Kenia, Spain, Fyro Macedonia, Croatia, Belgium, Portugal, Vietnam and Hong-Kong.Dissemination will be made by printing the handbook in several languages, with a final video and with electronic means, aiming to reach at least 65.000 contacts.
