The title of our exchange is "Playing the Game with Media!". This exchange project developed out an exchange which took place in August 2010 where 30 young people travelled to Sweden for 10 days; during this time the young people identified a common interest of sport and media between the two countries and so the project developed from this. In 2011 we propose to run an exchange from the 10th to the 17th of August at Rockwell College, Cashel Co. Tipperary. We will be running the activities and stayng at this venue as a joint group with both Irish and Swedish young people in residence. This will deepen the relationships and learning between the two groups of 30 young people each, and allow for a rich experience which will remain with the participants for the rest of their lives. The proposed outcome for the project is a mutual learning experience using sport and the media, two common interests, which will enrich their communicaiton skills, access to informaiton, awareness and appreciation of cultural diversity and of course allow them to have fun. During the week there will be workshops run by the young people themselves, and also by students and staff from Tipperary Institute around a number of key areas, including the history of national sports, the impact such sports have on our communities and our voluntary spirit, as well as developin skills in media and communications. The young people will be divided into mixed groups of Swedish and Irish, these groups will be responsible for different media aspects of the whole exchange and also for the sporting event to be held on the 16th of August - for example a photography group, a journalism group, camera work group, etc.Our objectives for this project are for the young people:" To have the opportunity to engage with young people from a different culture in a positive way" To be exposed to new experiences and opportunities" To develop supportive relationships with a significant adult outside their family environment" To develop respect for authority and boundaries" To gain a greater understanding of intercultural tolerance and acceptance" To engage in informal, yet positive and structured activities" To form positive relationships based on consistency, reliability and trust with both their peers and their leaders" To develop social, interpersonal and life skills" To learn to become positive, contributing members of the European community and recognize the benefits of being active citizens
