The Itaca Cooperative Società Cooperativa Sociale ONLUS, a non-profit organization, which was set up on June 29th 1992, is a type A) Social Cooperative in accordance with Law 381/91, and employs about 1600 people. It has its headquarters in the Autonomous Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia in Vicolo Selvatico, 16 in Pordenone, but it covers the areas of Friuli Venezia Giulia, part of Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige. The Casa Carli Community in Maniago, viale Repubblica nr. 10, is a live-in community within the residential disability sector employing 9 workers and providing services to people with mild to moderate disabilities. The Community is always open and is 25 km. from the volunteer’s flat. We are looking for one volunteer. If the volunteers are going to be able to handle the project and the tasks, they will have to demonstrate motivation and an attitude for interpersonal relationships and team work, the willingness to learn, a patient and flexible personality, curiosity, pragmatism, and sensitivity. The volunteers must be willing to share accommodation with other Europeans (even if living space and independence is guaranteed). The Disability Sector, of which the Casa Carli Community is a part, includes residential and semi-residential services for disabled adults of both sexes with mainly psychophysical disabilities, and limited autonomy and self-sufficiency. The main services are the search for and development of ways to integrate the individual into normal life, by putting measures into place aimed at strengthening communication and social skills. The intake programs are geared at being both individual and personalized, and not just at providing assistance and rehabilitation, but above all, at carrying out a complex project involving the quality of life of the adult. The activities of the project "Time to go" will be specifically related to support to the guests: the volunteer will support the guests of the house to reach a self government of their lives and to realize different creative activities. The volunteer will motivate them during their daily activities according to their needs and skills, and support them to participate to recreation activities or basic training. With the " Solimbergo’s project users will be involved in gardening activities such as maintenance of flowered patios , parks , flower beds for approximately three hours per week; then it will design a workshop on recycling .With the project " Creative Workshop " based in Casa Carli users we will be involved every afternoon for about two hours and can carry small objects ( magnets , clips , tweezers , paperweights and decorative panels ) with those designed by users themselves. With the project " Free time " the European Voluntary can accompany users in a sharing of activities and interests with other disabled people in the area. The goal will be to create initiatives and events such as cinema outings, concerts or events in the area . Such activity can be achieved roughly twice a week . Methods of achieving participation, integration and giving the person involved a leading role are among the activities proposed and it is very important from a methodological point of view that the individual also feels that the activities are an integral part of his/her path. One of the main objectives is to stimulate and support social and cultural integration within the district and the local community through specific initiatives; planning of these initiatives takes into account the personal characteristics of the guests and is in line with individual projects. Participation is defined on the basis of the interests and wishes of each individual. The end goal of the various residential services is to create a real life context which mirrors family life as far as possible, and includes the normal aspects of daily routine in an environment of acceptance and participation. The relationship with the family, where present, is obviously considered to be of fundamental importance: to re-establish or maintain a level of relationship with family members is essential for the steps that have been planned. The volunteers will be placed in a work group of experienced professionals who are constantly supervised by a coordinator. The volunteer’s weekly activities will be organized on the basis of about 35-38 hours per week. After an initial phase in which the volunteers will be encouraged to observe, listen and pay attention to the relational dynamics, they will begin a more active phase. Once the relationship has been consolidated, the volunteers will take part in individual activities and projects that will enable them to interact with the team, the users and the local community. European volunteers represent the European citizens and future workers, undoubtedly giving the volunteers a certain experience that is often and interesting first approach towards a working environment and to an environment different of origins.
