Time to Act: Minority Youth Leaders in Georgia
Date du début: 1 sept. 2014, Date de fin: 31 déc. 2014 PROJET  TERMINÉ

The proposed project “Time to Act: Minority Youth Leaders in Georgia” is a joined initiative developed by the Human Rights Focus (UK) and Union “21 Century” (Georgia). The project implementation period will last for four months (August – November 2014) and the main activity, winter school, will be implemented in Georgia from 1-12 November 2014. The project will gather 30 young people from Georgia representing different minority groups living in Georgia (Black and Asian communities, religious and ethnic minorities, refugees, etc). The programme of the winter school will focus on the following issues: equal rights and opportunities for disadvantaged groups, challenges of the current social landscape in Georgia (“new” minorities versus “old” minorities), social inclusion and integration strategies and methodologies, role of minority youth leaders and relevant decision-makers. The project aims to empower minority youth leaders and provide them with knowledge of the existing legal frameworks of minority protection, but also in specific skills of education about human rights in general and minority rights in particular, which can be used by them in their local settings to support the minority groups they work with on the daily basis. The activity will develop skills for intercultural dialogue, understanding and respect between young people representing both the minority and the majority of the society as a key element for working and living together. We believe that the project will be a space for learning and exchanging experiences, exploring the meaning of youth participation and its different forms. Young people will learn about different ways how this can be promoted and fostered and they will be supported to take their ideas further. The participants will reflect upon the roles, responsibilities and values in promoting and developing youth participation in Georgia.
