Our project sets development of the key competences in the field of efficiently using information and communications technology (Tik) along with the advancement of the English language (hence the title of the project: Tik? TAK- YES). The main aim of this project is establishing an efficiently functioning e-platform at school as well as implementing innovative methods of teaching using computer technology. It should directly influence quality of teaching through more active participation of students eagerly using modern technology in learning. Another ultimate goal of the project is improvement in using English. A higher level of knowledge of this language is a necessary condition to achieve better results in teaching and it enhances students’ motivation to learn those two indispensable in everyday life subjects, namely English and computer technology.
To attain this task proficiency in operating computers along with fluency in using the language is necessary, as most available ICT tools to be used at school, are in English. Combination of those two elements sets foundation for choosing the participants in the project: one ICT teacher and two language teachers. Additional advantage of those three teachers appointed to fulfil the project’s tasks is their active participation in the school’s life (they have already coordinated Comenius project for students and other exchange programs), innovatory approach to teaching, willingness to expand their skills and self-development. The teachers chosen to accomplish the goals of the project readily share their experiences and knowledge with other teachers leading instruction courses and open lessons at school. Thanks to the previous cooperation some innovations in teaching have already been implemented at school such as Kahoot or Voki, which are welcomed by students. Recently the teachers have become interested in Khan Academy and also are planning collaboration to lead this project. A supplementary asset of the chosen teachers is their eagerness to elevate professional skills and development consistent to life learning aims.
Project’s action include mainly participation in courses to develop two key competences: computers and English. The participating teachers have already worked together selecting the most appropriate courses offered by various institutions using the recourses of the Comenius website. The courses have been carefully chosen to optimize the fulfilment of the project’s aims. Therefore, the participating teachers are planning to attend the same courses to maximise the results. A subsequent stage in the project will be cooperation on implementing an efficient e-platform at school and its popularization among other teachers, but mainly among students. Other innovative methods of teaching learnt on courses will be enforced at school and instructional meetings along with open lessons for the rest of teaching staff will be organized. The involved teachers intend to cooperate on implementing constantly changing new technologies in their teaching practice.
The immediate result of the project is efficiently functioning e-platform and its utilization by many teachers at school for the purpose of better teaching. Additionally the use of other ICT tools will make the learning process more attractive, hopefully this will build self-confidence of the students who are passionate about computers and will elevate their active participation in learning. Thanks to the project teachers hope to connect with teachers from other countries and use e.g eTwinning for students to contact other students and exchange information. Expected indirect effect of the project will be better consciousness of the students in terms of their functioning on the labour market and further employment after finishing their education. Another anticipated outcome of the project is strictly language realted and connected with it quality of teaching. The opportunity of having contact with everyday English, chance of talking to other teachers using the language and exchanging experiences is invaluable asset to become fluent in the foreign language. A long-lasting effect of the project will be the opportunity of using the established e-platform in the future, the raise of the teachers’ awareness to use and to search for new technologies and methods of teaching. The project will also set example for other teachers to be more active and participate in oncoming projects in the future which determines their development and better skills.
