TERMINÉ
In the context of the new demands of the dynamic global economy and the challenges of a highly competitive labour market within the borders of the European Union, with an eye on the serious problems facing education in Bulgarian schools like lack of motivation to study, acquiring passive knowledge which is not enough to pursue a successful career, a fairly large number of students dropping out of school, low social status and insufficient authority of teachers, and also having in mind that child welfare is the principal objective of a teaching institution, Vicho Grancharov Secondary School aims at providing high quality effective education which will contribute to the formation of thinking, independent, enterprising, and communicative young individuals with good perspective for realization on the labour market.
The main objective of the present project is, through the opportunities that Erasmus+ offers, to provide access for the teachers working in this school to good European practices, which will serve as an inspiration in their job and also to provide basis for contacts with expert methodologists with long experience in the field and other colleagues from European countries with a view to ensuring future communication and cooperation.
The teachers will be selected on the following criteria: constant pursuit of diversification and updating their teaching methods and their successful application, as well as helping the students master practical life skills. The teachers must be aware of the need for studying and lifelong learning qualification, to have clear goals for the carrying out of the mobility and willingness to share their knowledge and experience acquired during the training courses.
In this project the school is planning for five teachers to attend 2-week courses for European teachers of English at secondary level. The programme of the courses is varied and intriguing. It starts with Practical Methodology Workshops on Teaching English as a Foreign Language conducted by expert trainers with many years of experience and a wealth of exciting ideas to impart. The workshops will explore a wide range of teaching ideas and activities designed to motivate students and make language lessons more enjoyable. It includes a variety of motivating activities which engage students’ imagination and creativity - innovative role play and drama activities, use of the media, poetry and stories; all four skills - particularly integrated tasks; using authentic materials; creative writing activities; using new technology , etc. Next come visits to Shakespeare’s Theatre, The Houses of Parliament in London, State Schools with an opportunity to observe lessons, workshops on life in Britain, trips to different towns.
As a result we expect to improve the quality of teaching English not only in the school, but in the other schools of the community as well; to apply working European practices with the aim of not only raising students’ motivation but also the teachers’ self-confidence and assertiveness in overcoming job challenges; to create a positive atmosphere in the school and in class which will prevent early dropping out or failing.
As long term benefits we expect to widen our students’ horizons, to satisfy their needs for modern teaching, to make the young people active participants in the life of the community, to build their skills for effective communication in English with people from other European countries while pursuing their career, to create opportunities for widening their contacts with peers all over the world for a successful realization of their ideas and initiatives.
