The Inspiring Science Education International Summer Academy

Context/background of project; -One teacher from our organisation Pakankylä school participated in the Inspiring Science Education International Summer Academy. We are working together with University Of Helsinki and Science Centre Heureka in EU-funded Inspiring Science Education project. Summer Academy provided teaching and learning pathways to make ISE-ideas more durable. We as a school and project participant make educational pathways in scientific repositories cooperating with Heureka and University of Helsinki. Educational contents are planned by combining informal and formal learning. Number and profile of participants; The participant teacher from Pakankylä school into the Inspiring Science Education International Summer Academy was and still is interested in science teaching and is also commited to improve Pakankylä school as a part of science network. Description of activities; methodology to be used in carrying out the project; - The metodological starting point to arrange teaching and learning is Inquiry-Based Science Education, which is strengthen by playful and game based learning. - Teaching and learning patways connect informal and formal learning with science centre and school. By using pre visit-visit-post visit and hands on ideology the results can be maximised. A short description of the results and impact envisaged - To improve the use of science portals in teaching and learning processes with leaners. - More online and other technology mediated learning in classrooms to motivate different learning styles and to help special needs. - Userfriendly learning contents for different kind of learners, for example primary and secondary schools. - To combine informal and formal learning to benefit the latest possibilities by using online material, simulations, mobile devices, laptops and augmented reality technology. - To encourage leaners to use foreign language (mainly English) to upgrade their learning by using international learning resources and repositories. The potential longer term benefits. - We are able to build more effective cooperation projects with scince centre Heureka, Learning centre Innokas and local LEGO-schools by implementing learning outcomes from the Inspiring Science Education International Summer School. Our aim is to make personalised elearning pathways into science repositories which are planned to create effective learning results by combining informal and formal learning, for example sience centre visit as a part of the science teaching. - Learning outcomes from mobile devices are envisaged to improve our skills to create learning materials for tablets and other portable devices. - European contacts for our teachers and learning communities.
