The proximity of mines in Tomaszowski poviat to the border areas of Ukraine poses hazard to the natural environment of the bordering regions. Transportation of hazardous substances, lack of effective alarm and early warning systems, as well as outdated equipment reveal the deficiencies in crisis management operations and the need in effective reactions to natural hazards.Therefore, the project focuses on improving the existing situation by introducing a number of soft and investment measures. The measures envisage the exchange of experience among the firemen in Poland and Ukraine, obtaining specialized equipment for ecological security such as fire trucks, etc. Expected Results: The main results include modernization of the fire department facilities in Tomaszow, improvement of the officers competence level, reinforcement of monitoring system of the state of the natural environment and prevention of hazards of natu-ral environment. The Ukrainian partners received new specialized fire engines.
