The European Guide to Mentoring

Peer Mentoring has proved to be a successful and cost-effective support mechanism for disadvantaged groups in accessing mainstream education, training and employment. However, it is a methodology in its infancy in many European countries. The project has facilitated promoting Peer Support methodologies widely across Europe to encourage more organisations to implement them. The project has brought together partners from six European countries who are involved in Peer Support to study the differing ways in which Peer Support is, or could be, implemented in different countries to assist the target groups. The Partnership has produced a “European Guide to Mentoring” giving information on Mentor Systems implemented in different European countries with guidance on how organisations can access further information/guidance on developing Mentor programmes. The Guide is published on the www.peermentor.org website.Additionally Mentors and Peer Educators (aged 16 – 25) have shared experiences and good practice and produced a “Rough Guide to Mentoring” to be published on http://mentorspace.peermentor.org/elgg to promote Mentoring and Peer Education across Europe. The organisations in this Partnership will become “Mentor Champions” for their countries.
